What is matcha tea?
Matcha tea is a type of powdered green tea that originated in Japan. It is made from shade-grown tea leaves that are ground into a fine powder, giving it a vibrant green colour and a distinct flavour. The tea is traditionally prepared by whisking the powder with hot water in a bowl until it becomes frothy. Matcha and green tea come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis, but they are processed and prepared differently, resulting in different flavor profiles and health benefits. In contrast, green tea is made by steeping the leaves in hot water and then discarding them. Additionally, matcha contains more caffeine than green tea, as it is consumed in its entirety.
