Choosing your first Sipspa
Which grade should I start with?
Ceremonial is single-cultivar Okumidori, first harvest. Smooth, sweet, low astringency. Made for whisking with water or soft lattes. The grade most associated with the traditional bowl.
Everyday is a three-cultivar blend (Yutakamidori, Yabukita, Asanoka). Bolder, full-bodied, designed to hold its flavour through milk and ice. The grade made for daily lattes and iced matcha.
If you are not sure, start with the 30g Ceremonial tin for traditional preparation, or the 50g Everyday pouch if you are planning to make lattes.
Which size should I order?
Matcha keeps its colour and aroma best for four to six weeks after opening. So size your order to how often you drink it.
30g (Ceremonial) or 50g (Everyday) is the entry tin, enough for two to three weeks of daily whisking.
100g (Ceremonial) is the comfortable rhythm size for daily drinkers.
500g is the daily-drinker format for households making matcha every day.
Do I need a tea set, or can I just buy matcha?
You need a wide-mouthed matcha bowl with rounded inner walls, so the matcha and water stay in the bowl while you whisk rather than splashing out. The bamboo whisk is the most important tool after the matcha itself, designed to aerate the powder into a smooth crema. Most kitchens don't have either, so the simplest way to start is one of our matcha tea sets: bowl, whisk and matcha in one box.
If you already have the tools, just buy the matcha. If you are buying a gift for someone new to matcha, the Starter or Tea Set is the right move.
Are your products organic?
Every matcha product we sell is JAS-certified organic, single-origin from Kyushu, Japan, and lab tested for pesticides and radiation before it leaves Japan. Our JAS certification is current and recently renewed. Less than 5% of Japanese tea farms meet the JAS standard.
