For the bowl you reach for every morning
Our 500g pouch is for the matcha drinker who has stopped asking whether matcha is part of their routine. It is. The 30g tin is a beautiful introduction. The 100g pouch is a comfortable rhythm. 500g is the size you reach for when matcha is no longer something you are trying, it is something you are keeping.
It is also the most cost-effective format we offer to retail customers. At $0.92 per gram, the per-serve cost works out to under $2 for a 2g bowl. About a fifth of what most cafes charge for a single matcha latte.
About the cultivar
Okumidori is a late-budding Japanese tea cultivar known for low astringency, a smooth mouthfeel and a vivid green colour. Single-cultivar means every bowl tastes recognisably the same. The same matcha, every tin.
It is made for traditional preparation with water, soft milk lattes, and the slower rituals where the flavour of the matcha itself is the point. Read more on what makes our matcha organic.
A note on freshness
Matcha keeps its colour and aroma best for four to six weeks after opening. 500g comfortably suits anyone drinking matcha daily, or a household where more than one person is whisking. If you sit closer to once or twice a week, our 100g pouch may be the better fit.
Store sealed, cold and out of light. The fridge is ideal once opened.
How to prepare
Sift one scoop (about 1g) into a bowl. Add 60ml of hot water at around 80°C. Whisk in an M motion for 15 to 20 seconds until a fine crema forms. For a latte, top with warm milk after whisking the concentrate.
Don't have the tools? Our matcha tea sets include a bowl, whisk and a smaller tin of matcha, ready to start.

Frequently asked questions
How many serves does a 500g bag make?
Around 250 serves at 2g per cup. A month or two of daily lattes at home. Roughly two weeks of service at a small cafe.
Is this the same matcha as the 30g tin and 100g pouch?
Yes. Same Ceremonial Grade Matcha, just in a larger bag. Shade-grown and stone-ground in Kyushu, Japan. First harvest, JAS certified organic, single-cultivar Okumidori.
What is the cost per serve?
$1.46 per cup. Our lowest cost per serve.
What margin can my cafe make per matcha latte?
Iced matcha lattes sell for around $6 to $9.50 across Australian cafes. Hobart and Brisbane tend to sit at the lower end ($6 to $8), Sydney and Melbourne at the higher end ($8 to $9.50).
Cost breakdown with our Ceremonial 500g:
- Matcha (2g serve): $1.46
- Milk, ice and cup: ~$0.90
- All-in cost: ~$2.36
At an $8 sell price (national midpoint), that is around $5.64 margin per latte. About 71% gross margin. At $9 it is around $6.64. Margins vary by cafe scale, rent and packaging.
Does organic justify a higher menu price?
Often, yes. Cafes that highlight "JAS certified" or "organic Japanese matcha" on the menu commonly charge a $1 to $2 premium over standard matcha lattes.
The Australian context supports it. The organic food market is growing around 7% per year and projected to reach $2.3 billion by 2034. Organic-buying customers spend on average 34% more per shop than non-organic shoppers (Woolworths internal data). Matcha drinkers sit squarely in the health-conscious segment most willing to pay for organic.
Every dollar added to the menu price flows directly through. With our Ceremonial 500g at $1.46 matcha cost per cup, charging $9 instead of $8 lifts margin from $5.64 to $6.64 per latte. The wholesale matcha cost barely moves. The premium is pure gross profit.
Tip: name the certification on the menu (JAS organic, Kyushu, Japan). Customers pay more when the organic claim is paired with origin and quality detail.
Can I get a sample before committing?
Yes. Our Wholesale Sample Pack includes 20g of Ceremonial and 20g of Everyday for $25. The cost is fully credited against your first wholesale order of 500g or more.
Do you offer bulk discounts?
Yes. Five or more bags qualifies for volume pricing. See the wholesale page for tier rates or enquire directly.
How should I store a 500g bag?
Sealed, cold and out of light. Once opened, decant into smaller airtight containers and keep refrigerated. The fridge is ideal.
How long does it stay fresh?
Unopened: around 12 months. Opened: best within four to six weeks for the fullest colour and flavour. After that it does not spoil. It softens in colour and aroma over time.
Is this matcha organic?
Yes. Every batch is JAS certified organic and lab tested for pesticides and radiation. Vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free.
Where is the matcha from?
Kyushu, in southern Japan. Shade-grown and stone-ground from first-harvest tea leaves.
